Abstract

The intended purpose of this study is to determine the impact listening comprehension activities with podcasts has on student engagement and reading comprehension. Rather than students building background knowledge through activities that involve reading comprehension in order to better comprehend what they are reading, students will listen to podcasts to build the necessary background knowledge needed to comprehend a text. Listening comprehension is a vital component in reading comprehension. This allows students to absorb information and vocabulary necessary to better comprehend a text. This method of instruction can potentially be an effective way for teachers to improve reading comprehension in secondary students.
