Abstract
Now, more than ever before, students need the skill sets necessary to meet the needs of the 21st century work place – problem solving, communication, teamwork, technology use, innovation, critical thinking, collaboration and project management/leadership. As an artist/teacher I have seen how the arts help students discover and develop these skills. It is my hope, that through this project, I will develop a systematic set of lesson plans to include the arts, the creative processes of the arts, and incorporate these lessons with core curriculum. Through this integrated process students will engage in project based activities to practice and strengthen their 21st century skills. In the ever changing world of education, technology, arts in education and online learning it is essential to begin to explore the possibility of arts in education residency work with an online component. To date, no artist/educator in Minnesota has developed an online program/hybrid program in online teaching and learning for arts in the schools. It is my hope that, through this project, I will develop the first such online class and bring arts in education into the 21st century.
