Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether paper or computer-based text effect reading comprehension. Specifically, the study looked at fourth grade students, with a wide range of reading abilities, enrolled in a public elementary school. The study was structured around student responses to comprehension questions after reading from paper and computer-based texts. Scores were collected and compared to determine the effect each text format has on reading comprehension. The study found a majority of students performed better on when reading paper passages than when reading passages on the iPad. Students shared that they preferred reading from paper over iPad when reading for school and for pleasure.
