Abstract
Title: Importance of Transition Planning
Purposed Study:
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the teacher, parent and student awareness of transition plans in the high school setting through trends. A transition plan can be summarized as a set of goals and guidelines in efforts to set a student up for individualized independence, that reflects their goals and their desired life choices post high school. Specifically, the research will look at Transition Plans from students, grades 10-12, in the general classroom with In-Class Support, students in Resource and students in Life Skills. Each support level has its own Special Education Teacher, that serves all students in that setting grades 10-12. From each of these three areas, and each of the grade levels within those areas, there will be research collected from 4 males and 4 females. Two of the males and two of the females will be from low socioeconomic standing and the others will be from regular socioeconomic standing. From gathering research through a questionnaire, that will be given to the student, their parent(s) and their Special Education Teacher, the data may find trends or lack thereof, between service settings, parents, educators, grade level and the students themselves.
