Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of using music and movement to teach sight words to kindergarten students. The experimental group will learn sight words through movement and singing. This study includes the collection of data by assessing each student's ability to recognize sight words. Students will be assessed by using a district wide sight word inventory. Once data is collected, it will be compared to a different classroom (control group) that has not used music or movement to teach sight words.
This study also includes a parent involvement component. Students will bring home sight word books to read with their parents/guardians. Parents/guardians will initial the sight word book and send it back to school. This data will determine if parent involvement has an impact on sight word recognition of kindergarten students.
