Abstract
The analysis of self can open up new opportunities to reflect on experiences that shape us. Exploring past experiences that got us to where we are now, looking at present experiences and perspectives, as well as looking forward to future career goals all have a part in knowing yourself. Learning about my own journey will help me in supporting others through theirs. What I have been through with family and friends, my faith, my academic career, and my culture have created the person I am. I used assessment and theoretical orientation exploration to gather deeper information into who I am as a counselor. I want to create an empathetic and safe space for people to process, while teaching healthy attachment and self-perception. Development as a counselor is a continuous journey both in and out of session. Development as a person is a continuous journey both in and out of session. Counseling is an intimate and intense experience, so I believe that I owe it to my future clients to work towards discovery too.
